WGT Rules & Code of Conduct
What every tracking team agrees to
Wounded Game Tracking – Trackers of Texas exists so hunters can trust who they’re calling into the field. These rules protect that trust — for hunters, for landowners, and for the tracking community as a whole. By applying to WGT, every tracking team agrees to the following..
1. Background Check Requirement
Every tracking team must pass WGT’s background check before being listed on the site. If you plan to regularly bring another person with you on recoveries (more than once in a season), that person must also pass a background check before accompanying you. This applies for as long as you remain a WGT member — not just at the time you apply.
2. Legal Compliance
You must hold a valid Texas hunting/tracking license in good standing and comply with all applicable Texas Parks & Wildlife Department regulations. A felony wildlife violation or license revocation may affect your standing with WGT.
3. Landowner Respect
You must obtain proper permission before tracking on private property. Respect for landowners is a condition of representing WGT in the field — not just a courtesy.
4. Professional Conduct
You are expected to treat hunters, landowners, and fellow trackers with respect and professionalism at all times. As a WGT member, you represent the entire tracking community — your conduct in the field reflects on all of us.
5. Honesty
Information you provide on your application, your profile, and in any communication with WGT must be accurate and truthful. Providing false information — including about your background, experience, or who accompanies you on recoveries — is grounds for removal from WGT.
6. Annual Renewal
WGT membership renews annually, with background screening refreshed as part of that renewal (September 15 – October 15 each year). Teams that do not renew are removed from the public map and search listings.
7. Grounds for Removal or Demotion
WGT may place a team on probation, demote their category, or remove them entirely for:
- A substantiated conduct complaint
- Regularly bringing a person who hasn’t passed WGT’s background check on recoveries (more than once in a season)
- Loss of good standing with Texas Parks & Wildlife
- A background check result that no longer meets WGT’s standards
- Extended inactivity or failure to renew
8. Right to Be Heard
WGT is committed to fairness. Before any final decision is made based on a background check result, you will be given a chance to respond. If WGT demotes, suspends, or removes your team, you may request reconsideration from the WGT Board in writing within 30 days of being notified.
These rules work alongside WGT’s Team Categories and apply equally to every tracking team, regardless of experience level. Questions about these rules can be directed to admin@wgttx.com.
